Seriously? Seriously?

I’m sure you’ve all seen the latest distinguished and respectful ads from John McCain exposing Barack Obama’s deep character flaws, such as being too popular and too inspiring. As if that wasn’t bad enough, according to this ad, many members of the press are apparently convinced he should be president. Maybe Obama used to be cool, but now that everybody’s all into him, he’s totally mainstream. It’s time for the hipster kids to move on to obscure underground dudes like the Republican nominee for president.

Fortunately, not everyone in the media has fallen prey to Obama’s diabolical cult of personality. There are still a few intrepid reporters like The Wall Street Journal’s Amy Chozick, who cut through all the so-called “issues” to get to the real question on voters’ minds: Is Barack Obama “Too Fit to Be President?

Despite his visits to waffle houses, ice-cream parlors and greasy-spoon diners around the country, his slim physique just might have some Americans wondering whether he is truly like them.

The candidate has been criticized by opponents for appearing elitist or out of touch with average Americans… Though Sen. McCain cannot lift weights due to injuries he suffered as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, he “walked the Grand Canyon rim to rim in August 2006″ and hikes whenever he can find the time…

Like Woodward & Bernstein, Chozick dug deep for this story, all the way to a post she started on the Yahoo! message boards:

Does anyone out there think Barack Obama is too thin to be president? Anyone having a hard time relating to him and his “no excess body fat”? Please let me know. Thanks!

Bravely ignoring discouraging responses like “for some people in the world, totally meaningless drivel is what keeps them occupied and up at night,” Chozick soldiered on until she received this insightful piece of breaking news:

Yes I think He is to skinny to be President.Hillary has a potbelly and chuckybutt I’d of Voted for Her.I won’t vote for any beanpole guy.

Yes, with no regard for the cost to her reputation, Chozen had the guts to quote this random internet person as a source for her nationally-syndicated, front-page article in the Weekend Journal section. She has set a new standard for objectivity and professionalism in investigative journalism. Truly, the bar has been moved to a new level in American politics.
